Flor de Nochebuena originaria de México, su nombre científico es euphorbia pulcherrima, palabra que en latín significa 'la más bella'. También se conoce como flor de Pascua, estrella federal y pastora.
Sus colores son el reflejo del auténtico significado de las navidades, rojo por el amor; y verde por la esperanza que trae al mundo. Es justo este color el que adquiere significado durante la Navidad por la creencia de que el rojo da suerte.
También existen ejemplares amarillos, blancos, rosados e incluso azules.
Los españoles nos percatamos de la presencia de esta magnífica planta en el año 1520 cuando viajamos a aquel país. En nuestro regreso, nos trajimos con nosotros la Flor de Pascua.
Pero no fue hasta el año 1825 cuando el embajador de aquel entonces de estados Unidos fue consciente de que existía una planta de tales características. Al verla quedó impresionado de su belleza. Por ello, no dudó en llevarse algunos ejemplares a su ciudad natal, California. Allí las comenzó a cultivar con dedicación. Los botánicos que le ayudaron fueron los que se percataron de que la Flor de Pascua no solo destacaba por su gran belleza. Su forma tan característica tiene un significado más: poderes mágicos.
Desde entonces, la flor de Pascua fue considerada una planta sagrada capaz de aportar buenas cosas a las familias. De esta creencia surgió la tradición de regalar un ramo de flor de Pascua en fechas señaladas como sinónimo de agradecimiento o de cariño.
La parte más mágica de la Flor de Pascua es el centro, es decir, las flores o frutos que hay en su interior de color verde. Son la esencia de la planta y la que está en contacto con la raíz, por lo que es la parte qué más energía absorbe procedente del suelo. En este sentido, esta parte tiene la propiedad de transmitir buenas vibraciones. Al entrar en contacto con esta planta mágica, la energía se transfiere a la persona en cuestión de segundos.
Por otro lado, las hojas verdes de la Flor de Pascua están relacionadas con la vida interior de las personas. Aporta tranquilidad, serenidad, energía y felicidad. Además tiene un poder característico que es la fuerza para indagar entre nuestros sentimientos. Es muy utilizada cuando nos sentimos agobiados o presionados por algo que no sabemos exactamente qué es.
En cuanto a las hojas rojas, están relacionadas con la buena suerte. En Navidad son muy características porque ayudan a empezar el año nuevo con buen pie y a limpiar las energías malignas del entorno o de nuestro interior para crear un escenario totalmente nuevo que sea capaz de acoger nuevas experiencias positivas.
